Infant’s body found in ditch prompts police investigation

Residents made a grim discovery when they followed a foul smell to a ditch, finding the body of an abandoned infant. The baby’s body was yet to be disturbed by animals.
Police are currently searching for those responsible for abandoning the body. It is still unclear how old the baby was.
At 6.30pm yesterday, March 3, Police Lieutenant Thaworn Saengsai, deputy inspector at Bang Pa-in Police Station in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province, received reports from locals about the discovery of an baby’s body in a ditch in the community of Moo 7, Sam Ruean subdistrict, Bang Pa-in district.
Medical professionals were alerted, and the scene was examined by investigators and the Ayutthaya Ruam Jai rescue unit.
The child was found in a ditch overgrown with vegetation and surrounded by rubbish. A strong odour permeated the area.
The infant appeared to have been dead for several days, making it impossible to determine the gender. The body was intact and wrapped in a large brown plastic bag.

Sakchai, a 49 year old resident who first discovered the body, recounted that while repairing his fence, he noticed a swarm of flies congregating over something in the ditch.
Drawn by the overpowering smell, he approached the site, causing the flies to scatter, revealing the baby’s body, which shocked him.
The location is near the community’s entrance road, which connects to several routes and is lined with numerous dormitories. Sakchai expressed his sympathy, uncertain whether the infant had died before being discarded or was abandoned alive.
Surprisingly, despite the presence of many monitor lizards in the area, the baby’s body remained untouched, reported KhaoSod.
Police have sent the body to the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Pathum Thani for an autopsy. The investigation is ongoing as police are working diligently to locate those responsible for abandoning the infant and pursue legal action.
