Cops caught a transwoman changing her hair colour at a salon after she robbed a Pattaya gold shop.

The suspect, 30 year old Chuenkamol Nasingkhan, on Wednesday, stole two gold chains weighing 2 baht each from the Phet Thong Wanida jewellery store located in Pattaya’s Soi Nern Plub Wan at 11.20am.

Police said that Chuenkamol walked into the shop wearing a face mask, and requested to try on two gold chains before dashing away on a motorbike parked in front of the store. No injuries were reported, according to The Pattaya News.

After the robbery, the store owner alerted the Pattaya Police who quickly tracked the suspect’s movements.

Officers discovered that Chuenkamol drove to the Big C Extra Department Store in Central Pattaya to sell one of the stolen gold chains for 61,380 baht. She then abandoned her motorbike at the department store and hailed a taxi to the Terminal 21 Pattaya Shopping Mall to exchange the remaining gold chain.

The police identified Chuenkamol’s whereabouts through Pattaya’s CCTV network and arrested her at the Hair Care Salon, where she was changing her hair colour. The whole operation took only four hours.

Chuenkamol confessed to the robbery, however, she claimed she needed the money to pay her debts. She apologised and asked for forgiveness.

Chuenkamol has been charged with robbery and remains in police custody as of press time.

This news comes just after another transwoman was caught stealing in Thailand earlier this month.

Bangkok Police arrested a Thai transwoman for stealing US$5,500 (189,000 baht) from a Sri Lankan tourist. The Sri Lankan victim, 30 year old Suras, filed a complaint at Huay Kwang Police Station on Sunday, April 9 after discovering that his money was missing.

Suras admitted that he was very drunk, and he and Lookpad went to his hotel in the Huay Kwang area. Suras claimed that he had sex with Lookpad and then fell asleep. However, when he woke up at 8am, Lookpad had disappeared along with US$5,500 of his money.

In Pattaya in particular, thefts by transgender individuals have become a notorious issue, particularly thefts of gold jewellery. It looks like the issue isn’t going away any time soon.
