Precious Shipping PLC delivers canal cleaner boat to combat waterway pollution
Precious Shipping Public Company Limited (PSL) proudly announced the upcoming handover ceremony of the Phitak Tara, a groundbreaking HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene) canal-cleaning boat. This innovative vessel represents a significant step in PSL’s commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship, aimed at protecting Bangkok’s vital waterways.
The event is set to take place on November 19, at the PSL’s ceremony area.
PSL’s dedication to a cleaner, safer environment stems from the recognition that marine health begins upstream. Bangkok’s canals, which feed into the iconic Chao Phraya River, play a crucial role in the city’s ecosystem but have been heavily affected by pollution.
While a larger garbage collection boat currently removes up to 1.5 tonnes of waste daily from the river, the source of much of this waste lies within the narrow, winding canals. Addressing pollution at its point of origin is essential to protecting the river and, ultimately, the ocean.
This handover ceremony marks a pivotal moment in the city’s fight against water pollution. The new HDPE boat, designed in collaboration with Asian Marine Services and its eco-focused subsidiary, Ecomarine, is lightweight, durable, and recyclable, aligning with PSL’s commitment to sustainability and the principles of a circular economy.
Chairman of the Board of Directors at Precious Shipping Public Company Limited, Chaipatr Srivisarvacha spoke on the importance of the handover ceremony, and its implications on sustainable solutions moving forward.
“The Phitak Tara boat embodies our mission to deliver practical, sustainable solutions that address the unique needs of Bangkok.
“By targeting waste collection directly in the canals, we can make a significant, positive impact on the health of the Chao Phraya River and, by extension, Bangkok’s entire waterway system.”
The collaboration between PSL, Asian Marine Services, and Ecomarine reflects a shared vision of environmental stewardship and community support. This initiative supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 14, which focuses on conserving and sustainably using the oceans, seas, and marine resources.
Associate Professor Doctor Chadchart Sittipunt, the Governor of Bangkok, will oversee the handover ceremony. He emphasised the critical need for continuous innovation in waste management.
“Protecting our waterways is essential for Bangkok’s future. This effort will help us preserve the natural beauty and public health of our city.”
PSL’s investment in these custom-built vessels reaffirms their dedication to not only corporate responsibility but also to leading environmental change that benefits all Bangkok residents.
Through this partnership, the Phitak Tara canal cleaner boat is set to become an invaluable asset in ensuring cleaner, healthier waterways for generations to come.
