Monday Covid Update: 15,972 new cases; provincial totals
15,972 new Covid-19 cases and 256 coronavirus-related deaths were reported today by the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration. Since the start of the pandemic last year, the CCSA has reported a total of 1,190,063 confirmed Covid-19 cases. The latest and most severe wave of the virus in Thailand, first recorded on April 1, has accounted for 1,161,200 of those cases.
The daily Covid-related death count remains high. The pandemic’s death toll in Thailand is now at 11,399, with 11,305 of those fatalities during the recent wave.
In the 24-hour period since the last count, the CCSA recorded 17,281 new recoveries. Thailand now has 176,137 active Covid-19 cases, a downward slope over the past few weeks. The daily number of infections continues to decline and the number of new recoveries continues to exceed the number of new cases, according to Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Natapanu Nopakun, who gives the CCSA report in English.

Bangkok remains the epicenter with 3,771 new Covid-19 cases reported today. In surrounding provinces, 1,055 new cases were reported in Samut Prakan and 966 in Samut Nakhon. In Chon Buri, which includes Pattaya, 747 new cases were reported today.
