Chinese plumber discovers giant salamander in residential water pipe

In an unexpected turn of events, a Chinese plumber Phichit based in Guangdong‘s Huizhou city, encountered a large creature, a 40 centimetre salamander, while attending a routine service call. The plumber’s discovery within a residential water pipe has since baffled and amused online communities.

The incident unfolded as Xue Hui was called to a customer’s residence to fix a water pipe issue. However, the mundane task took an astonishing twist when he discovered a life form residing within the pipe. The creature, a large, slick, black-bodied salamander with big eyes and a broad mouth was not only alive but also mobile. The plumber, Xue Hui, expressed his bewilderment via the Chinese social media platform Weibo.

“I am at a loss as to how it managed to enter the sewage pipe.”

Upon closer inspection, after carefully extracting the creature from the pipe, it turned out to be a giant salamander. The hefty creature measured roughly 40 centimetres in length and weighed approximately 3.5 kilogrammes.

Xue Hui, who has been in the plumbing business for many years, said he had never encountered such an incident before. Upon a closer inspection of the giant salamander, he realised that it was not a local wildlife species but a breed of artificial origin. He speculated that it must have escaped from a breeding farm somewhere.

Xue Hui and the homeowner have since struck up a friendship over the giant salamander. The homeowner has promised to keep and care for the salamander at their residence. Since this bizarre incident was shared online, netizens have flooded the post with a flurry of comments, expressing their shock and amusement.
