PHUKET: Police in northern California arrested a 15-year-old boy early this morning (Phuket time) in connection with the sexual assault of a young boy in a local park, police said today.

A police spokesperson said officers were called at around 5:40pm local time yesterday after a 7-year-old boy was sexually assaulted in Sacramento’s Sim Park, located in the heart of the state capital. The young boy was near a playground when the assault occurred.

“Through the use of surveillance footage, police obtained a detailed suspect description,” the spokesperson for the Sacramento Police said. During the investigation, a police officer familiar with the area located and detained the suspect at his home nearby.

Police said the 15-year-old, whose identity has not been released due to his young age, was arrested and booked into juvenile hall while the investigation continues.

“There was no prior relationship between the victim and the suspect,” the spokesperson said, giving no other details.
