A trawler has sunk off the coast of Pattani province due to stormy seas caused by tropical storm Pabuk. Reports say one fisherman has died with another missing. Four managed to make it back to shore safely.

The body of Pramote Wondsuman has been identified, while the missing man is only known by his first name, ‘Chalong’.

The 30 tonne vessel was heading back to its home port of Songkhla when they made the decision to head to the nearest port after heading about the approaching storm (Pabuk).

The trawler, named ‘Chok Malinee’ sank around 2 am on this morning (Friday), in the Gulf of Thailand off Yaring district in the south of Thailand.

The crew of six ended up overboard as high waves overwhelmed and eventually sank the boat. Although everyone was wearing life vests, only four made it to the shore alive.

The deceased’s body was found washed ashore by searchers around 11 am this morning.
