Phuket police seize 7,568 ya bah pills

PHUKET: Police seized 7,568 ya bah (methamphetamine) pills in Phuket and arrested 117 people in connection with drug offenses, statistics for the July 1 to 25 period show.

Of the 117 arrested, 56 were held for possession of ya bah, 22 for sniffing glue or paint thinners, 29 for possession of marijuana; nine for possession of krathom, an indigenous plant that has a stimulant effect, and one for possession of cocaine.

In addition, 192 people were arrested on gambling charges, of whom 12 were held for involvement in the underground lottery.

Two murders were reported during the period, with no arrests thus far reported.

One person was arrested for manslaughter. There were 15 cases were bodily harm, eight of which were solved.

A total of 68 theft cases were reported, four of which involved motorcycles reported stolen. Three people were reported for alleged fraud. Sixty-seven people were arrested for working illegally and nine were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms.

A further 18 were arrested for offenses related to prostitution, while one person was caught distributing pornographic material.
