Phuket drug dealer busted with 11kg of marijuana
PHUKET: Police arrested a 22-year-old man for possession of about 11 kilograms of marijuana, an illegal firearm and other drug paraphernalia at a location near Bangkok Hospital Phuket yesterday evening.
“We received a tip-off that Subinnimit Rakvet, 22, was dealing marijuana in the Talad Yai area, making deliverers on his Kawasaki Ninja motorbike,” said Maj Ritthichai Choomchuy of the Phuket Provincial Police. “We used our source to set up a sting operation where Mr Subinnimit agreed to sell 1kg of pot for 16,500 baht.”
When Mr Subinnimit arrived at the drop-off point, police were waiting for him.
“He confessed that the drugs in his possession were his. We later took him back to his house in Phuket Town so we could search further,” Maj Ritthichai said.
At the house, police found an additional 10kg of marijuana, two codeine pills, a homemade firearm, one round of ammunition, a scale and other drug paraphernalia.
“He told us that he bought the marijuana from ‘Mr Kan’ and ‘Mr Ben’ in Bangkok. The drugs were usually delivered by post [See Special Report on Drugs by Post here]. Additionally, he purchased the gun via Facebook for 2,500 baht [See Special Report on Illegal Gun Dealing on Facebook here],” Maj Ritthichai said.
Mr Subinnimit was charged for possession of a Category 5 drug with intent to sell, possession of a Category 2 drug and possession of an illegal firearm.
Police confirmed that they would be following the new leads on ‘Mr Kan’ and ‘Mr Ben’.
