The Green Lodging Trends Report 2018 (the third annual report) has been launched and will remain open until August 10, 2018. To participate, which is free, hotels need to sign up using the link HERE.

Given the current influx of tourism to Phuket and all resort markets across Southeast Asia, this is a invaluable tool in measuring sustainability and best practices in the local hotel industry.

The Green Lodging Trends Report Survey has the support of C9 Hotelworks, Green Lodging News, Green Key, Travelife, Green Key Global, Horwath HTL, Green Seal, and Boston Green Tourism.

Survey participants have an opportunity to discover new innovative practices that hotels are implementing, use information to improve and ultimately outperform their competitors, and highlight innovations to showcase to the world in the annual trends report.

The goals of the Green Lodging Trends Report are:

  • Identify best practices in the industry that more hotels can benefit from
  • Discover innovative efforts by hotels that should be recognized and celebrated
  • Determine what is trending in hotel sustainability each year and over time
  • Increase awareness of the performance of individual facilities and the industry as a whole
  • Create a platform for discussion and spreading of innovation among hotels and their peers, suppliers and customers globally
  • Create a mechanism for tracking continuous improvement
  • Assist hotels in consolidating relevant sustainability information to provide customers

The Survey: Each year Greenview devises a survey of about 100 questions covering the latest in operational practices, facility attributes, and outreach programs to conserve resources, reduce carbon emissions, increase guest experience, and make positive community impact. There is no cost to participate in the Green Lodging Survey. Hotels participate by responding to the survey via an online portal platform where work can be saved and answers easily can be updated for the next year’s survey.

The Trends Report: Greenview analyzes the results with general trends and highlights exemplary practices and innovations that stand out, serving as a guidepost for the industry and especially the survey participants.

The Benchmarking Report: Greenview prepares a free compare report, confidential to each participant, to serve as a yardstick for a hotel to understand the status of each specific practice within the general participant universe.

The 2017 Green Lodging Trends Report is available at no cost by clicking HERE. The report is based on data from 2,093 hotels in 46 countries and provides industry trends on topics ranging from energy management to communication to – for the first time in its own category – Health & Wellness. The report includes results of 110 best practices in 12 categories.

Phuket’s ‘seastead’ is now a sad ‘homestead’ back on shore – VIDEO | The Thaiger

The Phuket seastead removal operation was a success yesterday, according to the Royal Thai Navy. The controversial seastead structure is now under guard at the Port of Thailand. The Royal Thai Navy says they are confident with the evidence they have for any litigation that may follow the removal of the structure from its offshore home, some 22 kilometres off the coast of Phuket.

About 300 navy officers were involved in the process removing the structure from the south east coast of the island yesterday morning.

The seastead finally arrived at the Phuket Deep Sea Port in Cape Panwa at about 10pm last night.

The Royal Thai Navy says they are not afraid of being sued over their actions.

The Ocean Builders Company has foreshadowed legal action over the Thai Government and Navy’s actions in relation to the seastead which was proposed to be the first of many similar structures for an offshore colony.

Seastead structure dragged back to shore by Royal Thai Navy

Seastead structure dragged back to shore by Royal Thai Navy | The Thaiger

A floating seastead has today been towed by a naval vessel back to the Port of Phuket in Cape Panwa. Meanwhile the Deputy PM Wissanu Krea-ngam is challenging the owners and builders of the structure to take the Thai Government and Navy to the International Court of Justice.

The Royal Thai Navy’s Third Fleet ventured out with a group of reporters on Saturday to inspect the floating seastead, the first of about 20 planned Ocean Builders for the open waters about 22km from Phuket’s Koh Racha Yai.

Nothing valuable was found on board the octagon-shaped steel and aluminium structure which was attached to a floating platform.

Two vessels were used in today’s operation. The living quarters were detached and placed on the first vessel and the second towed the floating platform to the shore for safe keeping pending legal action against its owner as well as the builder, Ocean Builders Company.

Dr. Wissanu said yesterday that Thai authorities were authorised to remove or dismantle the floating housing unit with or without the consent of its owner after finding the structure could pose a threat to Thai national security and sovereignty in accordance with Article 119 of the Criminal Code.

He said that the structure also posed an obstacle to vessels and was located not far from an oil rig.

Regarding the threat by Ocean Builders Company to sue the Thai government in the International Court of Justice for the removal, the deputy PM says he welcomes the move, noting that no government anywhere would allow a seastead settlement near their maritime territory.

Seasteader Chad Andrew Edwartowski and his Thai wife, Mrs. Nadia Summergirl, are wanted by the Thai police for questioning after Thai immigration revoked the American’s non-immigrant visa and blacklisted him.
