Woman dies in water-well plunge

PHUKET: Phuket City Police are trying to identify the body of a woman found at the bottom of a water well in Phuket Town yesterday afternoon.

Police were notified about the body by residents of the Bor Nam Community, located off Amphur Road on the east side of Phuket Town, the local Thai-language newspaper Siangtai Daily reported today.

It took Phuket Kusoldharm Foundation workers about 30 minutes to remove the body from the 10-meter-deep well.

The unidentified woman appeared to have had a light complexion and to be 35 to 45 years of age. She was wearing only a sarong.

Local residents questioned by police at the scene did not know the woman’s name, nor were there any forms of identification found.

Police said there were no signs of foul play. They suspect the woman went to the well to pull up a bucket of water, but lost her balance and fell to her death.

Police estimated she died about half an hour before the recovery of the body.
