Similans to close on May 15

PHUKET: All nine islands in the Similan National Park will be closed to the public between May 15 and November 15 this year. Kittima Tinkohyao, an officer stationed at the park’s Tap Lamoo office in Phang Nga, explained that the islands are closed every year at about this time because the arrival of the monsoon season makes the seas too rough for boats to land passengers. “Of course, you can go. But there is nothing to see there; the visibility underwater is down to zero. All facilities on Island Four will be closed during the period. Only a few of our staff will remain, and we will not be responsible if anything happens to anyone who does decide to go there,” K. Kittima told the Gazette. K. Kittima added that the closing date may be brought forward if the weather deteriorates early. Similarly, the reopening date will also depend on the weather.
