Private jets can set down, but not stay at Phuket Airport for New Year, say officials
PHUKET: Private jets can continue to land at Phuket International Airport over the New Year holidays, but are restricted in how long they can remain parked at the airport, the Phuket Gazette has been told.
An order issued by the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) mandated that priority be given to commercial flights at Phuket Airport until January 5, confirmed Wing Commander Sutheerawat Suwannawat, deputy director of the facility.
“Private jet operators are not banned outright. They are allowed to drop passengers off, but are expected not to stay more than two hours,” he explained.
“During the holiday season, a lot more commercial flights arrive and this makes the slots busier.”
Wing Cdr Sutheerawat said that safety was top priority for the all pilots intending to land in Phuket, home to the country’s third-busiest airport.
“We are doing our best to follow the orders from the DCA. The most important thing is making sure that safety is the first priority,” he said.
“Private jet operators should contact the DCA for permission, then the DCA will inform us. If the slots are free, private jets can use them but only for a short time.
“Sorry if it this causes any inconvenience. I hope you all stay safe and have a Happy New Year.”
