Prison Products Fair returns to Phuket
PHUKET: The 11th Annual Prison Products Fair will get underway on Friday at Saphan Hin, on the outskirts of Phuket Town.
“The fair is held to showcase the inmates’ hard work and offer their handmade products for people to buy,” said Phuket Provincial Prison Chief Rapin Nichanon.
On display and for sale will be a wide range of products handcrafted by inmates currently incarcerated at prisons throughout the 14 provinces of Southern Thailand, explained Chief Rapin. The crafts are a product of the inmates’ vocational skills training.
“Most of the products will be sturdy wooden furniture and decorative items, all at very reasonable prices,” said Chief Rapin.
“The inmates will receive a portion of the profits made on items sold at the fair. They can put this money toward rebuilding their lives once they are released.”
The fair, open daily from 9am-10pm, will continue until June 14 and will also feature stage performances, food stalls and refreshments.
