Phuket Darts: Hemingways A routs Hemingways B
PHUKET: In Week 9 play in the Patong Darts League (PDL), Hemingways A routed Hemingways B 11-2 and moved past them to take the lead in the league table.
It appears that the Swedes can excel in something other than building furniture; they can play pretty good darts too. English Tony and Swedish Tony (Hemingways A) were untouchable, as always. Carl and Michael stayed close, but the finishing by the A team lads was outstanding. Big Ronnie partially recovered after a drubbing from Tong at Pogues Mahon a couple of weeks ago and stole a game from Gerry (Hemingways B).
Uncharacteristically, Rappe (Hemingways A) let his guard down for a moment and Steve managed to steal the second game. No fewer than thirteen 140’s and 28 scores of one hundred or more from all eight players over the course of the evening. All but a couple of games come down the double. Unfortunately for Hemingways B, the A team were consistently nailing the double on the first or second dart.
Rod (Starfish) reports a very close game against the Celtic bar. Terry (Celtic) was counting the high score revenue in his head for his 140, but Liam (Celtic) played around downstairs and hit three treble 19’s to score 171. It was 6 games each going in to the beer leg, but the Celtic boys snatched a victory and more importantly, the beer. Starfish, who struggled to find players last season, have managed to take some of the best teams in the league right to the wire this season: good effort Rod. Final score 6-7.
Market Bar team hit the form that made them serious contenders for the top spot over the past few seasons. Joy (Market) led the way with a high score of 140, finally finding her form in Week 9. After a great start to the season, Justin’s (Beach House) team couldn’t stay with Market Bar. The final score of 12-1 put Market Bar back into the race, but left Beach House at the foot of the table.
Oli reported an excellent and exciting night of darts and socializing as his Shakers team hosted Pogues Mahon. The match couldn’t have been closer: 4-4 after the singles, then 6-6 after the doubles to set the scene for an exciting beer leg and deciding game. Before the game both teams were in contention for the third place slot in the league. Shakers proved to be just a bit too strong (or sober?) for Pogues Mahon and used the home advantage to steal the beer leg. Martin (Shakers) was the highest scorer again with a 133. Final score 7-6
