Desperate plea for blood made to save German in Phuket
PHUKET: Vachira Phuket Hospital is making a desperate call for A-negative blood to save a German man who was involved in a motorcycle accident this morning.
“We gave him the only two units we had in our stock, but we need more, as he will probably need to undergo three more surgeries,” Ampai Saengwichitr, medical technologist of Vachira Phuket Hospital told the Phuket Gazette. “We’ve checked with the Red Cross and they don’t have any either – we need this blood to save him.”
Two units of A-negative blood are on their way down from Surat Thani. Additionally, one donor supplied two more units of A-negative blood, but it takes six to eight hours for it to be tested before it can be used, explained Ms Ampai.
Hospital staff are currently trying to identify the victim, as he was not carrying any identification at the time of the accident.
English-speaking Blood Bank staff at Vachira Phuket Hospital can be reached at 087-299 6229. Donors can either make a donation at the hospital or at the Phuket Regional Blood Center (PRBC).
Blood donations can be made at Vachira Phuket Hospital, Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 8pm, and
Saturday and Sunday, 8:30am to 3pm.
Donations can also be made at the PRBC, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm, Tuesday and Thursday, 8:30am to 8pm, and Saturday and Sunday 9am to 3pm.
