Book Fair comes to Phuket
PHUKET: The annual Southern Book Fair, which is traditionally staged in Haad Yai, will this year be in Phuket, at the Big C supercenter, on the bypass road, from July 12 to 16.
Apichart Kaewkubpet, Chairman of the Phuket branch of the Book Lovers’ Club, told the Gazette, “At the fair will be a wide variety of books at more than 30 booths, with publishers from around the world.
Popular local writer and national artist Sane Wongkamhaeng, author of the book Thaksin: Get Out!, will be at the fair to autograph his books, K. Apichart said.
Also at the fair will be an exhibition, currently on tour in Southern Thailand, of photographs of HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej; special collector’s stamps for sale from the Phuket Post Office, and batik handmade by young offenders from the Phuket Juvenile Observation and Protection Center. The youngsters will also be offering foot massages.
“The fair has traditionally been held in Haad Yai, but we are holding it for the first time in Phuket because we want to promote the club and also to try to encourage people to donate books that we can then give to children from poor families,” K. Apichart said.
He added, “Everyone is invited, Thais and foreigners alike, especially as we will have many very interesting books available.”
The fair, on the upper level of the Big C supercenter, will be open daily from 10 am to 8 pm.
