Body of missing fisherman found
PHUKET: The body of a fisherman who went missing yesterday evening at Sai Kaew Beach was found today near the spot he was last seen.
Kaiyasit Wadeesirisak, 25, was fishing with friends when he decided to swim in rough seas in Tah Chat Chai last night.
“According to his friends, Mr Kaiyasit jumped into the water to swim alone when a big wave came and swept him out,” Lt Col Anek Mongkol of the Tah Chat Chai Police said. “His friends tried to go out and find him, but couldn’t because of the water conditions.”
Police searched the area yesterday evening, but were unable to locate Mr Kaiyasit.
“His body was found at about 12:30pm by Kulsodharm Foundation workers when they continued the search by boat today. It was about 400 meters away from where he was dragged out by the wave,” Lt Thanom Thongpan of the Tah Chat Chai Police said.
Because the area is mostly used for fishing, there are no lifeguards or officers on patrol.
This month has already seen two cases of fisherman dying while fishing from shore (story here and here).
“Please be careful. The weather is not good for swimming right now. Please always swim in areas deemed safe by lifeguards, we do not want to see anyone else go missing,” Col Anek said.
Mr Kaiyasit’s body was taken to Thalang Hospital where it is awaiting funeral arrangements by his family.
