2 German, 1 Turkish assault Russian man over alleged rape attempt

Officers from Patong Police Station arrested two German men and a Turkish man in Phuket for physically assaulting a Russian national on Saturday, after the victim accused them of attempting to rape his Finnish girlfriend.

The Phuket Hotnews reported that police were called to investigate the alleged assault by two German men and a Turkish man outside a hotel on Rat Uthit 200 Years Road at approximately 5.30am on Saturday, March 8.

Upon arrival, they found the injured Russian man, identified as Aleksandr Belinskii. The three foreign attackers fled before the officers arrived.

Belinskii came to the rescue after the three foreign men allegedly attempted to rape two Finnish women staying at the hotel. Belinskii argued with the suspects. which then escalated into a physical altercation.

Police reviewed CCTV footage from outside the hotel and nearby areas, successfully identifying the suspects as 30 year old German national Aksu Cemre Can, 22 year old German national Aksu Ali Cem, and 23 year old Turkish national Yanyana Salman.

Nation TV reported differently, alleging that the three attackers were Israeli nationals.

The three men were located at La Casa Patong Hotel, prompting a police raid later that evening. They were subsequently arrested and taken to the police station for questioning.

During questioning, the suspects admitted to assaulting the Russian man but denied the allegation of attempted rape. They claimed to have met the Finnish woman at an entertainment venue on Friday, March 7, and spent time together before offering to escort her to her hotel.

Upon arrival at the hotel room, they encountered her Russian man who was the boyfriend of one of the Finish women. An argument broke out between the men, resulting in a physical altercation.

Police indicated that legal action would be taken against the three suspects, although the specific charges have not yet been disclosed.

However, based on a similar previous incident, the men may face charges under Section 295 of the Criminal Law for physically assaulting another person, which carries a penalty of up to two years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to 40,000 baht, or both.

In a related case, three foreign men remain at large following a physical assault on a Thai tuk tuk driver outside Jungceylon Mall in Patong last month. The incident reportedly stemmed from an argument over parking, during which one of the foreigners summoned additional companions to attack the driver.
