A Thai man attacked a Swiss tourist with a cue stick at a bar in Pattaya, accusing the foreigner of cheating during a game of pool.

Rescuers from the Sawang Borriboon Dhammstan Foundation responded to the incident at a bar on Soi Khao Ta Lo in Bang Lamung district, Pattaya, last night, January 15, following reports of a physical altercation. Officers from Nong Prue Police Station later arrived at the scene.

Upon arrival, officers found the Swiss man, identified as 39 year old Devin, who sustained an injury to his wrist. Devin explained that a Thai man, 30 year old Anan, struck him on the wrist with a pool cue. Rescuers provided first aid before transferring Devin to a hospital for further treatment.

Anan, who was still present at the bar and visibly intoxicated, admitted to attacking the Swiss man. He told police that he had been playing pool with Devin and lost the game, alleging that the foreigner cheated. This accusation led to an argument that escalated into a physical assault.

Anan claimed he acted violently in self-defence, asserting that the foreigner attempted to harm him first.

The bar owner informed rescuers and police that he tried to intervene but was unsuccessful in stopping the altercation. He stated that he did not witness whether the Swiss man actually cheated but became aware of the situation only after the argument began.

Another incident was reported in Phuket last week when an intoxicated foreign tourist attacked Thai app-based motorcycle taxi riders.

The riders claimed that the tourist asked to be taken to a massage shop but they were unable to accommodate him as they were fully booked.

Additionally, during the same week, a foreign man insulted and mocked a Thai transwoman in front of a crowd near Pattaya Beach. When she confronted him and asked him to leave, the situation escalated into an argument, during which the foreigner brutally assaulted her.
