Pattaya’s fast and furious: Delivery dashed in ‘brake’-neck collision
A terrifying smash involving a car and two motorcycles rocked Pattaya early this morning, leaving a food delivery rider and another motorcyclist with horrific injuries. The drama unfolded at around 3.06am today, October 22, on Soi Sukhumvit Pattaya 53, also known as Soi Noen Plub Wan.
Emergency services from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Rescue Centre and reporters rushed to the scene. They found a grey Toyota Corolla wrecked and blocking the road, its driver’s side wheel mangled and the front end a crumpled mess. The driver, identified as Santi, a 41 year old air conditioning technician, miraculously escaped unscathed and was waiting to speak with police.
Nearby, a battered red-and-black Honda Wave 110i lay in ruins, its front completely torn off. A food delivery bag lay scattered on the road. The rider, 29 year old Chanon, was left with a serious facial wound, a broken left leg, and a deep gash on his right foot. Paramedics rushed him to hospital in a desperate bid to save him.
A second motorcycle, a black Honda Wave 125i, was also damaged in the carnage. Its rider, 30-year-old Worachai, suffered a head injury and appeared dazed. He received first aid before being whisked away to hospital.
Santi told police he was driving from a side street onto Sukhumvit Road when he spotted the motorcycle riders speeding towards him. He claimed one of them swerved and slammed into his car, carrying it into the opposite lane and colliding with the other bike. The brutal impact left both riders fighting for their lives.
A 17 year old girl, who was helping her family sell goods nearby, witnessed the horror unfold. She stated that the car and motorcycles were speeding and saw the car veering into another lane just as the bikes approached.
However, a friend of Santi, who was in the car then, spilt some shocking details. He allegedly admitted they had been drinking together and that Santi was driving too fast before the crash. Despite this, he insisted Santi wasn’t to blame and called for police to check CCTV footage for clarity.
“We had been drinking, and he was speeding, but I don’t think he is to blame. The CCTV will show what happened.”
Santi was taken into custody for a breathalyser test, and investigators will scrutinise CCTV footage to establish who will face the music for this devastating accident, reported Pattaya News.
