Khao Kheow Zoo calls on public to name newest zebra star

Pattaya’s Khao Kheow Open Zoo is creating quite the buzz by inviting the public to name its latest black-and-white bundle of joy: a newborn zebra foal.
Khao Kheow Open Zoo director Narongwit Chodchoi proudly announced the debut of a charming female zebra foal, born on November 6 last year to her 6 year old mum and 8 year old dad.
The cute new arrival is reportedly healthy and thriving, yet awaits her claim to fame with a fitting name. In a bid to engage the community, the zoo is rolling out a Stripe a Name contest, offering fabulous prizes to entice participants.
Fans are being asked to cast their votes between the names Mahor and Lai Thai. The stakes are high, with three cuddly 16-inch Moo Deng plush toys and ten One Pass, All Access tickets up for grabs.

The voting is a digital affair, taking place exclusively on the zoo’s Facebook page, with the polls open until 4.30pm on March 15.
The name that tops the polls will become this little zebra’s moniker, and anyone who casts their vote will have a shot at winning the delightful prizes in a random draw. Victorious voters will be revealed to the world on Sunday, March 30, through the zoo’s Facebook page.
The zoo’s veterinarians have given the family a clean bill of health, noting the mother’s doting attention and the father’s proud presence.
This bouncing beauty brings the number of zebras at the zoo to a joyful quartet. Animal lovers are encouraged to swing by the African animal exhibit and meet the stripy sensation in person.

In related news, animal rights organisation PETA urged British tourists to stay clear of Thailand media darling Moo Deng and other famous animals in the nation’s zoos.
Pygmy hippo Moo Deng, whose name translates to “bouncy pork” in Thai, has sent visitor numbers at Khao Kheow Open Zoo skyrocketing. However, this surge in popularity has prompted concern from animal welfare groups like Born Free and PETA, who fear for her well-being amidst her newfound stardom.
