A homeless woman in Pattaya, identified only as Somjit, aged 49, was arrested after using a meat cleaver to attack a man whom she claimed had attempted to rape her. This incident occurred on Monday, April 25 in an abandoned building on Thepprasit Road Soi 9, which serves as Somjit’s shelter.

According to her account, on the night of the incident, Somjit had been sharing some drinks with another homeless man named Sujin, aged 52, inside the obscure location they called home. Unexpectedly, their friendly gathering took a violent turn as Sujin allegedly began to assault her with the intent to rape her.

Fighting back in what she perceived as self-defence, Somjit seized the meat cleaver nearby and dealt a sharp blow to Sujin’s head. Clearly, she did not hold back as the police report confirmed that she openly admitted to her actions.

Meanwhile, the injured Sujin managed to stumble out of the desolate building, only to be discovered by neighbours some 500 meters away. When found, he was not only bleeding profusely from the wound on his head but also clearly intoxicated.

Officers from the Pattaya Police were quickly on the scene and proceeded with the arrest of Somjit. She willingly surrendered as she did not deny her role in the event. Believing her story about the assault, the police plan to conduct a thorough investigation to get to the bottom of the situation.

As it stands, the case proves to be rather complex with both individuals being involved in violent actions against each other. The investigators must now embark on an extensive inquiry to unravel the truth and determine the series of events that led to this bloodied altercation between the two homeless acquaintances.

While Somjit’s claims of defending herself against an attempted rape may justify her actions, police must carefully examine evidence and corroborate testimonies before reaching any definitive conclusions. In these situations, it is crucial to determine the level of force used by both Somjit and Sujin and whether their actions were proportional to the events that unfolded.

With Pattaya being a close-knit community, stories like this resonate with the locals and serve as a reminder of the harsh realities that some people face every day. While this particular case may be extreme, it also sheds light on the vulnerability of individuals living on the fringes of society and the lengths they may go to in order to protect themselves.
