Czech man falls to death from 30-metre cell tower on Koh Larn

A Czech man yesterday fell to his death from a 30-metre cell tower on Koh Larn, an island in Chon Buri province.

Officers from Mueang Pattaya Police Station were alerted to the death of a foreign man at about 11.30am yesterday, March 16. They rushed to the scene with a medical team from Ban Koh Larn Hospital and rescuers from the Sawang Boriboon Dhammastarn Foundation.

The scene was located at the 30-metre cell tower, which was surrounded by a fence. The body of the foreign man was found on the ground near the tower. He was wearing a black hoodie, blue shorts, and grey socks. Both of his legs were broken, and it was suspected that he had died around five to six hours before his discovery.

His backpack was found at the scene, allowing police to identify him from the passport and other documents inside. The foreign man was identified as 54 year old Czech national Dalibor Vacak.

Police investigated his arrival on Koh Larn and found that he had travelled to the island alone. He had rented a motorcycle for three days but had not booked any accommodation.

Officers suspect that Vacak committed suicide by climbing the cell tower and jumping off. Nevertheless, his body will undergo an autopsy to confirm the cause of death. Officers will coordinate with the embassy to contact his family and inform them of the tragic news.

Another suspected suicide was reported on Koh Larn on March 6. The body of a Japanese man, 48 year old Kazuhiro Ikeda, was found hanging from a tree at a viewpoint on the island.
