Thai woman arrested with ketamine hidden in underwear at border

Police arrested a Thai woman with ketamine hidden in her underwear as she crossed the border in the Isaan province of Sa Kaeo after working as a party entertainer in Poipet, Cambodia.
The 28 year old Thai woman, Sararat Saengmook, was stopped at the Khlong Luek Border Checkpoint in the Aranyaprathet district of Sa Kaeo at about 10.30am yesterday, February 25. She reportedly acted suspiciously, prompting a search of her and her belongings.
Sararat was wearing a black tank top, long jeans, and trainers and was carrying luggage and a shoulder bag. A female soldier searched her clothes and bags but found nothing. However, officials remained suspicious and conducted a further search, eventually discovering a plastic zip-lock bag hidden in her underwear.
The substance inside the bag was later confirmed to be 0.56 grammes of ketamine. Sararat concealed the packet between the double layers of fabric in the crotch of her underwear.
Sararat eventually confessed that she had worked as a party entertainer at a pub in Poipet City, Cambodia. She claimed that a customer had given her the drug, so she hid it to use it when she arrived home in Bangkok.

Sararat was then transferred to Khlong Luek Police Station for further legal proceedings. As ketamine is classified as a Category 2 drug, she may face imprisonment of up to two years, a fine of up to 40,000 baht, or both.
A recent crackdown on ketamine was reported last week when police seized 23 kilogrammes of ketamine and 25 kilogrammes of crystal meth from two cars, a black Honda HR-V and a white Honda Jazz, in the Thon Buri neighbourhood of Bangkok.
Last month, a British man was arrested in Phuket for possession of ketamine. He was stopped while riding his motorcycle after acting suspiciously upon encountering patrol police officers. A search of his vehicle revealed six packs of ketamine stored in the compartment, ready for sale.
