Thai father brutally assaulted over 10,000 baht debt of son’s girlfriend
A Thai man suffered injuries from a brutal assault by a group of men outside his home in the Si Racha district of Chon Buri province. Among the man’s attackers was the father-in-law of his son’s wife, who reportedly owed 10,000 baht to her ex-husband.
The Thai couple, Aujcharee and Decha, sought help from the non-profit organisation Saimai Survive after the assault. They reported the incident to the Si Racha Police Station but remained worried about their safety, prompting them to seek protection from the organisation.
Aujcharee explained that her 22 year old son had left monkhood three months ago. She and her husband were unaware he had a girlfriend until a group of strangers arrived at their home. One of the strangers said…
“Don’t you know that your son has a girlfriend? Don’t forget to tell his girlfriend to return my money, 10,000 baht.”
Aujcharee said she and her husband were confused by the strangers but promised to relay the message to their son and his girlfriend if he was indeed in a relationship.
Unexpectedly, the group returned to the couple’s home on January 6. More than 10 people arrived in a white pickup truck and parked outside their house. They shouted for the son and his girlfriend but neither of them was home.
Decha stepped forward to inform the group that the people they were looking for were not there. Suddenly, one of the attackers struck Decha in the face with a baseball bat. Other attackers joined in the assault until Aujcharee intervened to stop the incident.
The couple later learned from their son that his girlfriend’s ex-husband gave her 10,000 baht to buy a motorcycle. However, he demanded the money back after the breakup, and the matter remained unresolved.
Among the 10 attackers was the father of the girlfriend’s ex-husband, who claimed he was seeking repayment of the debt on their son’s behalf.
The founder of Saimai Survive, Ekkaphop Lueangprasert, condemned the attack as unjust, stating that Aujcharee and Decha were not involved in the debt. He expressed hope that the attackers would face proper legal consequences to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Ekkaphop also expressed confidence that the police would arrest all the relevant suspects within two to three days.
