Thai boy with special needs falls to his death from Ayutthaya mall

A 12 year old Thai boy fell to his death from the rooftop of a five-storey shopping mall in the central province of Ayutthaya on Monday. Police are investigating whether the incident was an accident or a suicide.

The tragic event occurred at around 6.30pm, December 2, at a well-known shopping mall on Rojjana Road in the Uthai district of Ayutthaya. Officers from Uthai Police Station and rescuers rushed to the scene and attempted to save the boy, whose name has not been disclosed, using CPR, but their efforts were unsuccessful.

The boy’s body was discovered near the mall’s exit. He was wearing dark blue shorts, a white tank top, white socks, and brown trainers. The boy sustained a fatal head injury. His mother and twin brother later arrived at the scene and embraced his lifeless body.

The mother revealed in an interview with Sanook that her son was a child with special needs His symptoms began to appear when he was 11 years old. She withdrew him from school two months before the incident to seek appropriate care for him.

On the day of the tragedy, her son left home to play with friends but did not return. She searched for him extensively until the police contacted her.

The mother said she was unaware of how her son travelled from their home to the shopping mall. While he previously attended taekwondo training at the mall, the classes ended a long time ago.

According to witness accounts, the boy reportedly fell from the rooftop of the mall. Police subsequently examined the area. The rooftop was being used as a storage space for tools, air-conditioning compressors, water pumps, and other equipment.

Officers found trainer marks on the dusty floor, which matched the shoes worn by the boy. No signs of a struggle or foul play were found at the scene.

Police suspect the boy accidentally fell to his death but are continuing their investigation to rule out the possibility of suicide.
