Thai baht bus driver hits and kills colleague on Chon Buri road
A Thai baht bus driver hit and killed his colleague on Sukhumvit Road in Chon Buri province yesterday, January 22, following an argument over their work schedule.
An app-based food delivery rider, Parkphum, contacted officers from Saen Suk Police Station at around 10am yesterday to report the incident. Parkphum later told Amarin TV that he was on his way to deliver food to a customer when he witnessed the altercation.
Parkphum stated that he saw a man, later identified as 75 year old Ek Rittipong, arguing with another baht bus driver, who then struck Ek with his vehicle before fleeing the scene.
Ek’s colleague, 70 year old Samak, turned himself in at the police station later that day. He recounted that Ek approached him earlier in the morning to complain about their work schedule.
The issue had not been resolved when Samak began his shift and drove out of the terminal to pick up passengers. Ek allegedly pursued Samak in another baht bus and cut in front of his vehicle to block his path.
According to Samak, Ek exited his vehicle holding a knife and began approaching him. Samak claimed he panicked and attempted to escape, but accidentally struck Ek in the process.
Samak insisted that he did not intend to harm Ek and only sped away out of fear. He decided to surrender to the police to prove his innocence and emphasised that the incident was unintentional.
Police have yet to determine the legal charges against Samak. Officers are reviewing CCTV footage from the scene before deciding on any charges.
In a related incident reported on Tuesday, January 21, police arrested a Thai sedan driver for intentionally colliding with an app-based motorcycle rider, resulting in the rider’s death.
The conflict began when the sedan driver refused to pay compensation after initially crashing into the motorcycle. The motorcyclist pursued the sedan onto Sukhumvit Road, where the argument continued. The sedan driver then deliberately rammed into the motorcyclist, killing him.
The driver was charged with intentional murder and reckless driving causing death. However, he was released on bail of 600,000 baht.
