Red hair skull found in Chachoengsao linked to missing Pattaya woman

Family reveals woman vanished after row with foreign boyfriend

A skull with long red hair, found in the central province of Chachoengsao, may belong to a Thai woman, who disappeared in Pattaya following an argument with her foreign boyfriend.

A 15 year old boy, Krittapas, reported his shocking discovery to a community leader at around 5.30pm on Tuesday, May 27. He explained that he had been jogging in preparation to apply for the territorial defence student programme when an unidentified object rolled out of the roadside forest.

Upon closer inspection, Krittapas was horrified to realise the object was a skull. The discovery prompted an investigation by officers from Saenphutdat Police Station. Police searched the area and found two rubbish bags in the forest.

One of the bags was torn open, revealing a pink towel stuffed inside. Officers believed the skull might have originally been wrapped in the towel. Stray dogs in the area might have been attracted by the smell and ripped open the bag in search of food.

According to the police report, the skull had long red hair and a crack around 10 centimetres wide. Investigators suspect it belonged to a woman who was beaten to death with a hard object.

Locals told Channel 7 that the path where the boy was jogging is often used as a shortcut by motorists during the day but it is very quiet at night. The location is quite far from the main residential area, and only locals are generally aware of the road.

One frequent motorcycle rider told the media that she saw a cardboard box in the middle of the road previously. She avoided hitting it and did not pay much attention. She suspected someone may have later moved the box into the forest to prevent an accident.

The motorcyclist also speculated that the two rubbish bags found at the scene were previously inside the cardboard box, possibly placed there by those involved in the woman’s death.

An autopsy is ongoing to identify the skull. The news Facebook page Jmoi V+ yesterday, May 28, reported that the family of a 43 year old Thai woman named Metinee suspected the skull could belong to her. Metinee had long red hair similar to that found on the skull.

According to the page, Metinee had been working in Pattaya but went missing after a row with her foreign boyfriend. She was last seen on May 5 in Soi Buakhao. Her family has not commented on any statements made by the boyfriend regarding her disappearance.
