Passenger bus from Bangkok to Chiang Mai catches fire, no injuries

A dramatic incident unfolded when a passenger bus travelling from Bangkok to Chiang Mai caught fire, engulfing the vehicle in flames. Fortunately, all passengers escaped unharmed.

The fire occurred around 9pm yesterday, December 29, when the Lampang Province’s 191 Radio Centre reported the blaze near kilometres 671-672 on Phahonyothin Road in Sop Prap district, Lampang. Immediate assistance was requested from local police, public disaster prevention officers, and rescue teams.

Upon arrival, emergency responders found the blue-and-white bus, operated by Viriyah Tour, in flames on the roadside heading towards Koh Kha district. A coordinated effort with water trucks enabled firefighters to control the blaze. Thankfully, no injuries or fatalities were reported at the scene.

Approximately 40 passengers, along with the driver and bus crew, managed to evacuate the vehicle safely. Some passengers experienced fainting spells due to the shock of the situation, and rescue personnel administered first aid to those affected.

Following the initial response, officials from the Lampang Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office arranged transport for the stranded passengers to a security post in Ko Kha, facilitating their onward journey.

The incident led to significant traffic congestion, extending over 1 kilometre. Authorities temporarily closed the road to ensure the safety of the area before reopening it. It was estimated that the clearance would take about one hour, reported KhaoSod.

Investigators from Ko Kha Police Station have begun looking into the incident to determine the cause and proceed with legal actions.

In related news, a fire broke out at a coach parking area on Kanchanaphisek Road, Bangkok damaging nearly 10 buses but fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Firefighters quickly responded to the blaze, which occurred on December 25, at a facility owned by Siam Transport Company, located along the western ring road of Bangkok in Thawi Watthana district. Police Inspector Senee Kanpawong of Bang Sao Thong Police Station received the alert and rushed to the scene with firefighters and rescue teams from Bang Khun Non Fire Station.
