Motorists seek compensation after electric transformer explosion damages 4 vehicles

Motorists are seeking compensation after an electric transformer exploded and destroyed three cars and a motorcycle in front of a garage in the Song Phi Nong district of Suphan Buri.

The deputy superintendent of the Tungkok Police Station, Taksin Khanthongdee, told Khaosod that the police and firefighters were notified of the fire in front of the U Chai Service garage yesterday and rushed to the scene.

Taksin stated that the officers discovered the garage, cars, and a motorcycle on fire. They spent about 30 minutes controlling the blaze.

One pickup was completely destroyed by the fire while another three vehicles were damaged by the blaze.

Taksin added that no one was injured at the scene because the garage was closed, and there were no passengers or drivers in any of the vehicles.

The 37 year old garage owner, Chatchai Malai, later gave an interview with Khaosod saying that a neighbour alerted him to the incident as he was travelling to Bangkok at the time.

Chatchai reckons the explosion occurred because of a malfunction in the breaker system of an electric pole in front of his garage.

Chatchai said the breaker has failed and been changed several times by the Tungkok Highway Department but the same problems keep recurring.

Some of the cars damaged are customers of Chatchai’s garage.

He said he will seek help and compensation from those responsible for the blaze.

Police officers reported that they would communicate with the Tungkok Highway Department and Provincial Electricity Authority to find the cause of the explosion and seek compensation for the loss.
