Liverpool dad and army veteran dies suddenly during Thai getaway
A dream holiday abroad quickly turned into a nightmare for a British man from Liverpool as the former army veteran passed away unexpectedly while enjoying the Songkran festivities in Thailand.
In a twist of fate, 69 year old Roy Mitchell met his untimely end during the Songkran festival in Pattaya, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and service. Known for his generous spirit and dedication to helping others, Mitchell’s sudden demise has left his loved ones reeling.
Mitchell, a Liverpool city centre resident, ventured to Thailand annually, captivated by its allure after serving as best man at a friend’s wedding a decade ago. Despite his Belfast roots, Roy found a second home in the heart of Chinatown, L1, where he immersed himself in the local culture and camaraderie.
His friend, 49 year old Paul Walsh fondly reminisced about Mitchell’s unwavering support and love for Thailand.
“Roy fell in love with the place. He loved travelling around and he loved the culture.”
Tragically, the British man’s unexpected passing has prompted an outpouring of grief, with tributes flooding social media platforms and local hangouts like Soul Train bar, where Mitchell was a familiar face on the dance floor.
As friends and family rally to honour his memory, a Gofundme page has been established to cover funeral expenses and facilitate Mitchell’s return from Thailand, reported Liverpool Echo.
Mitchell’s legacy of kindness lives on through donations to KIND, a charity close to his heart, aiding disadvantaged children and families across Merseyside.
