Ethereum co-founder donates 10 million baht gift to Moo Deng and friends
The co-founder of the leading cryptocurrency Ethereum, Vitalik Buterin, donated 10 million baht to Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Chon Buri to support its wildlife adoption project and to fund the construction of a new home for Moo Deng and his companions.
Buterin previously visited Khao Kheow Open Zoo in November to meet the zoo’s celebrity pygmy hippo, Moo Deng, and her renowned caretaker, Auttaphon “Benz” Nundee. During his visit, Buterin wore a shirt featuring a Moo Deng pattern and brought Pad Krapao for Benz as a gift.
Yesterday, the official Facebook page created by Benz, ขาหมู แอนด์เดอะแก๊ง (Khamoo and the Gang, meaning Stewed Pork Leg and the Gang), shared the heartwarming story of Buterin’s generous support, delighting Moo Deng’s admirers.
The page announced that Buterin decided to support the zoo’s wildlife adoption project and fund the construction of a new home for Moo Deng and other animals, donating 10 million baht in the name of the beloved hippo.
The post urged followers to look forward to visiting the new animal habitats and included a layout plan for the upcoming development. According to the plan, the 1,600-square-metre extension of the zoo will feature homes for Moo Deng and capybaras, two outdoor exhibition zones, and two areas for rescued wildlife.
The director of the zoo, Narong Chondchoi, informed the media that the zoo had already received a cheque for 5 million baht from Buterin, with the remaining 5 million baht to be transferred next year.
Narong explained that the new home for Moo Deng is currently in the design stage. The zoo will proceed with the project following its plans, supported by Buterin’s generous contribution.
This is not the first time that Moo Deng inspired significant support for herself and her animal friends. In October, the creator of the $HIPPO cryptocurrency from Dubai donated 5 million baht to Khao Kheow Open Zoo.
Buterin revealed that this is just the beginning of his campaign, with additional contributions to zoos across Thailand currently in progress.
