Contestant eliminated from Miss Universe Thailand after manager infiltrates organising committee
One of the favourites to take the Miss Universe Thailand title when the contest is held on Saturday, October 10, has just been kicked out for breaking the rules. Chayathanus Saradatta, also known as “Cheraim”, is accused of allowing her manager and chaperone to infiltrate the organising committee. It’s understood Sitthichai Rewviroj, aka “Ken”, attended numerous committee meetings, potentially getting the inside scoop on what questions contestants might be asked, and giving his client an advantage.
Thailand still has a fascination for the ‘beauty contestant’ format and there are hundreds of such contests conducted around the country each year.
The matter first came to light earlier this week when Sitthichai’s phone number was listed on Cheraim’s Instagram account as her manager, when he was also serving on the Miss Universe Thailand committee.
Piyaporn Sankosik, also a member of the committee, says Cheraim signed and agreed to the pageant rules and all contestants need to be treated equally. She says contestants are expressly prohibited from allowing chaperones or managers to get involved with contest activities. Piyaporn says she can prove through CCTV footage that Cheraim’s manager attended several committee meetings.
For her part, Cheraim says Ken has been working for her since last year and claims he only attended 3 meetings, whereas organisers say it was a lot more than this. Cheraim has apologised for not informing the committee that Ken was also her manager. She has previously refused to quit, saying it was up to organisers if they wished to disqualify her.
