Burglar steals water pump from Chanthaburi governor’s home
In a gleaming example of who not to rob, a burglar broke into the home of the governor of Chanthaburi province to steal a water pump, which turned out to be an ill-fated decision. The suspect, Chonlathit Wongpramut, also known as Oat, has a criminal record that includes multiple offences.
Bang Lamung Police Station received a report of a burglary in the Takhian Tia subdistrict at approximately 1.30am yesterday, September 8. The house targeted belongs to the Governor of Chanthaburi Province, Montisit Paisarnthanawat. CCTV footage captured Chonlathit climbing into the residence and stealing a water pump. He also attempted to tamper with an air compressor, causing additional damage.
The police investigation team, led by Police Colonel Nawin Sinthurat and Police Lieutenant Colonel Kornpong Sukwisit, quickly identified the suspect from the CCTV footage. The burglar was tracked to his residence, located about 800 metres from the crime scene. Within 12 hours, police arrested him and recovered the stolen water pump.
Chonlathit confessed to the crime, citing stress from the recent loss of his wife and alcohol consumption as motivations for his actions. He claimed ignorance of the house’s ownership, stating he did not know it belonged to the governor.
A background check revealed Chonlathit’s history of theft and drug use. During the arrest, a drug test indicated the presence of illegal substances in his system. Consequently, he faces charges of nighttime theft, property damage, and illegal use of Category 1 narcotics. The burglar is now in police custody and will be prosecuted according to the law, reported The Pattaya News.
