The bodies of a Thai woman and her 10 year old son were found in the sea off Koh Si Chang, an island in Chon Buri province, yesterday. The cause of their deaths remains under investigation.

Officers from Koh Si Chang Police Station investigated the deaths of the 39 year old Thai woman, Pannipa Kittiphattarapong, and her 10 year old son at 1pm yesterday, August 29. They were found floating face-up in the sea before being retrieved to Tha Wang Beach near Phra Chudathut Ratchathan Museum.

Pannipa was wearing a white shirt over a red T-shirt and long brown trousers. Her son was in a red and black striped T-shirt and was not wearing trousers. An identification card found with Pannipa allowed officers to identify her.

Pannipa did not have any wounds or signs of physical assault, but the boy had scratches on his back. Police suspect that they died about five hours before their discovery.

Further investigation revealed that the mother and son travelled to Koh Si Chang from Koh Loi in the Sriracha district of Chon Buri on a ferry that left Koh Loi pier at 9am that day.

Pannipa took her son to swim at the location where their bodies were later discovered. Officers have not yet concluded whether their deaths were due to accidental drowning or murder. Their bodies have been transferred to a hospital and are currently undergoing autopsies.

In a related report, the naked body of an assistant Thai nurse, Preyaporn “Da” Niyomkarn, was found off Koh Si Chang in June. She left goodbye messages to her aunt and boyfriend before disappearing and being found lifeless.

Her death was initially suspected to be a suicide by police officers but Da’s brother was not convinced by this conclusion. Four suspicious migrant workers in the area were suspected to be involved in Da’s death. They also left the island after the case gained public attention.

However, the police have still not found any connections or evidence linking the four foreigners to Da’s death. Her case remains unsolved, and her family still keeps her body, awaiting a conclusion to her mysterious death.
