A Thai woman shared a video of a perverted taxi driver in Bangkok masturbating in the cab on TikTok to warn other female passengers travelling alone. The driver faces a lowly fine of just 5,000 baht and a one-month suspension for his creepy act.

The victim shared a video on her TikTok account, @liveis1ee, showing her paying for the service while the deviant taxi driver has a hand around his penis after masturbating. The video was later deleted by the moderator of TikTok but the woman shared it with several news agencies.

In the video, the victim and the taxi driver can be heard having a conversation.

Victim: Don’t do this to other passengers. What is going to happen when the passenger is very afraid of your behaviour?

Taxi driver: I did it because you are cute.

Victim: I am a woman travelling alone. Do not ever do this again. Nobody deserves this.

Taxi driver: I am sorry.

Victim: I mean it. I almost jumped out of the cab many times, but I was worried about my safety. What if I get scared, jump out of the car and die? What would you do?

Disturbing incident

The victim later told Channel 3 that she hailed a taxi from Mor Chit BTS station to her condominium in Bangkok’s Bang Khun Non-district around midnight on October 22.

According to the victim, everything was fine for the first 10 minutes of the journey. Then the driver took a call from his wife. The wife asked where the driver was and he replied that he was taking a passenger to Bang Khun Non.

The victim confessed that it was a relief to hear that the driver had a wife and revealed the location to her. However, her relief swiftly turned to alarm when the driver started driving slower, behaving unusually and moaning. The victim noticed that the driver kept looking at her through the rear window and masturbating.

The victim explained that she was scared but did not dare to get out of the car. She tried to look away, ignored what the driver was doing and pretended to be strong.

The victim decided to ask the taxi to stop at a convenience store near her condominium instead and recorded the video as evidence to file a complaint at Bang Khun Non-Police Station.

The victim said she shared the video on TikTok to warn other women. She added that she would not dare to take a taxi alone at night again. She stressed she wasn’t dressed in any sexy clothing at the time, and she felt that no one deserved to be sexually harassed, no matter how they dressed.

Light punishment

The Land Transport Department reported that it had investigated the case further and identified the driver as Wan. For his actions, Wan was fined 5,000 baht and his driver’s licence was suspended for one month.

The victim told Channel 7 that she felt the punishment was too light. She now panics every time she uses public transport.

Thai netizens agreed with the victim that the punishment was not severe enough to deter taxi drivers from lewd or violent behaviour towards passengers, as similar incidents continue to make headlines in Thailand, especially in Bangkok.
