3 Thai men killed by train while drinking near railway track

Three Thai men lost their lives after sitting and drinking alcohol near a railway track in the northern province of Lamphun.
Officers from Mueang Lamphun Police Station were called to the scene of the accident, located at the railway track near the Ban Umong community, at 7.50pm,yesterday, February 17.
Upon arrival, officers were met with the harrowing sight of the men’s body parts scattered across the area.
The deceased were identified as 62 year old Paitune, 57 year old Taweesak, and 72 year old Jamrat. They were drinking with three other three friends, who managed to escape unharmed.
Two of the men’s bodies were discovered on the railway track, while the third was found 3 metres away at the side of the track. Their arms and legs were severed, and one head was missing.
The victims’ friends told police that they visited the area to hunt birds. While waiting for the right time to hunt, they drank alcohol together on the ground beside the track.

Tragically, a special express train travelling from Bangkok to Chiang Mai approached the spot. The three men, for unknown reasons, did not hear the train’s horn or engine noise and failed to move out of the way.
The train struck them, dragging their bodies 50 metres before coming to a stop.
Rescuers from the Umong District Foundation gathered the victims’ body parts and transferred them to Lamphun Hospital for autopsy examinations.
The remains will soon be returned to their families for funeral arrangements.

This incident follows another recent fatal train accident reported last week in the central province of Lop Buri.
In that case, a Thai man, suspected of having a mental illness, fell from a moving train as it approached the platform. The man attempted to jump off the train before it stopped but lost his balance, fell onto the tracks, and was fatally struck.
In another incident in December last year, a Thai TikToker lost his life in a train accident in the central province of Ratchaburi.
He was struck by a train while recording a video on a railway bridge. Despite the train driver sounding the horn as a warning, the man failed to hear it and was hit.
