3 Thai boys hailed heroes for rescuing woman from drowning

Young trio acts swiftly after spotting woman in distress in Thailand

Three Thai boys rescued a woman from drowning at a canal in the central province of Pathum Thani.

Officers from Khlong Luang Police Station and rescuers from the Thakhlong Municipality Office rushed to the pier yesterday, July 13, along the Khlong Song Canal, near Soi Erawan 1 in Khlong Luang district, following a report of an unconscious woman.

The woman, believed to be between 30 and 35 years old, was found lying face down and unconscious on the pier, her clothes soaked. Rescuers administered first aid before transporting her to Thammasat University Hospital.

Three young boys who pulled her from the water remained at the scene. They were identified as 13 year old Kittipoj “Guy” Pimpisan, 11 year old Warinthorn “Gai” Pimpisan, and 13 year old Siwat “Boom” Jitpraphat. Guy and Gai are brothers.

Guy told police and rescuers that they were on the opposite side of the canal when they noticed the woman clinging to the pier before falling into the water. The boys rushed to her aid and asked if she could swim.

The woman said she could not swim, prompting Guy to grab her hands and, with the help of his brother and friend, pull her out of the water. She then lost consciousness on the pier.

The boys said they did not witness the moment she fell in, but residents told them the woman had been sitting on the pier for some time beforehand.

Police said they would question the woman once her condition improved to determine the cause of her fall. Her current condition was not detailed in the report.

Officers and residents praised the boys for their bravery, and several Thai media outlets hailed them as heroes. The boys told the media that they were not scared of helping the woman because they are good swimmers.

A similar act of heroism by another courageous child was reported in November last year, when a 12 year old boy saved a 17 year old girl from an attempted suicide in the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok. The teenager reportedly jumped into the river, prompting the boy to leap in after her and pull her to safety.
