Chon Buri police stop former military sergeant from jumping off school roof
A police negotiation specialist managed to talk a man out of jumping from a school roof in Chon Buri province yesterday. According to Thai media, the man was a first-class sergeant major in the military, but his mother took him home after he appeared to have some psychotic symptoms.
The man had demanded to speak with his commander and his girlfriend, who he claimed was a teacher at the school in Ban Bueng district. He then climbed onto the roof of the school and threatened to jump.
The man’s mother and girlfriend both showed up, trying their best to calm the man down and convince him to come down from the roof safely. Their efforts weren’t working. But then, a negotiation specialist from Ban Bueng Police Station arrived and was able to comfort the man by giving him 2 bottles of Soju, a Korean liquor brand. The specialist helped the man come down safely.
The man’s mother reportedly said that her son had been arguing with his girlfriend. This, along with his mental health issues, might have pushed him to threaten to jump from the roof. The Thai military did not immediately respond to the incident.
A similar incident happened with a man in Patong just last week. The man was talked out of jumping from the fourth floor of a hotel. Like the man in Chon Buri, the man in Patong had also been having relationship problems.
