Poo-litical escape: Drug suspect tries to smear way out of arrest

A drug suspect on Tuesday attempted to smear faeces on police officers in an attempt to escape arrest at a condominium in Bangkok.
Officers from Huay Kwang Police Station were called to a condominium on Pracha Uthit Road on Tuesday, April 1, to mediate a dispute between a Thai man and the condo staff. The workers reported that the man, identified as 33 year old Noppakit, damaged the lift but refused to take responsibility.
The officers accompanied both parties to Noppakit’s room to discuss compensation. Inside the room, they encountered three other people: 36 year old Itchaphum, 25 year old Thotsaphon, and 37 year old Walit.
While discussing the lift issue, police noticed four tablets of B5 (benzhexol) on the bed, prompting them to focus on potential illegal activity. A search of the room led to the discovery of 0.633 grammes of ketamine in the bedroom.
All four suspects denied ownership of the drugs. During the confrontation, one of them accidentally dropped a .38 calibre handgun on the ground, prompting further investigation. Noppakit admitted to owning the firearm but was unable to provide a permit.

The suspects were taken to a hospital for drug testing, though the police did not disclose the results to the public.
Chaos ensued when officers attempted to transport Noppakit to the police station for further legal proceedings. He claimed he needed to urinate, and officers allowed him to use the bathroom.
However, instead of urinating, Noppakit defecated, picked up his faeces, and attempted to flee while threatening to smear the waste on the officers. His escape attempt failed, and the police quickly subdued him. They cleaned him before taking him into custody.

Noppakit faces two charges:
- Section 149 of the Narcotics Act: Manufacturing, importing, exporting, distributing, or possessing a Category 2 psychotropic substance without permission. The penalty is up to seven years’ imprisonment and a fine of up to 700,000 baht.
- Section 7 of the Act on Firearms, Ammunition, Explosives, Fireworks, and Imitation Firearms: Possessing a firearm without a permit. The punishment is up to 10 years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to 20,000 baht, or both.
The other suspects were charged under Section 149 of the Narcotics Act.
