Bangkok man arrested for drug sales from rental room

Police in Chokchai district apprehended a 29 year old man for operating a daily rental room used for selling e-cigarettes and illegal substances, including ketamine pods and methamphetamine.

Police discovered financial transactions totalling 1 million baht (US$29,985) over six months. The suspect, , Wanakaset “Film” Wattanakaset, faces four serious charges.

Today, April 21, police officials, including Police Lieutenant General Siam Boonsom, Police Major General Nopasilp Poolsawat, and Police Major General Pallop Aremra, directed an investigative team led by Police Lieutenant Colonel Pinyo Wiangkam to arrest Wanakaset at a hotel in Wang Thonglang district, Bangkok, around 3pm on April 20.

The operation found evidence including 50 ketamine-laced e-cigarette pods, a sachet of happy water, and 0.92 grammes of methamphetamine in room 417 on the fourth floor.

This operation followed a tip-off from an informant about Wanakaset’s activities within the Chokchai district. The investigative team coordinated with superiors and planned a search of Wanakaset’s room. Upon entering, they identified themselves and conducted a thorough search.

During the search, nearly 50 ketamine e-cigarette pods were found, as well as drug paraphernalia. Wanakaset confessed to owning the drugs and admitted to using methamphetamine before the police arrived.

He disclosed that he sold each ketamine pod for 1,800 baht (US$55) and had been renting the room for two weeks. Further investigation revealed frequent delivery rider visits to collect packages from him.

While no cash was found, his bank account contained 5,046 baht (US$150), with transactions indicating a turnover exceeding 1 million baht (US$29,985) in the past six months. An initial urine test confirmed the presence of methamphetamine, leading to a medical confirmation of meth in his system.

Wanakaset is facing multiple charges: possession of a category 1 drug (methamphetamine and happy water) without permission, illegal consumption of methamphetamine, selling e-cigarettes and related products against consumer protection regulations, and possession of illegal e-cigarettes under customs laws. He was handed over to Chokchai police for further legal proceedings, reported KhaoSod.
