Which Asian country is doing all the flying in the Asia-Pacific?
Now everyone can fly, or so we’re told by one of the region’s leading budget airlines. So who’s doing all the flying in Asia?
Thai flyers, with an average of more than 10 flights EACH per year.
Thais are making more flights per year ahead of second and third placed Japan and India, according to the Expedia’s 2018 Global Flight and Hotel Etiquette report. The report surveys 18,000 people worldwide on their flight and hotel bookings. The survey covers all of the Asia Pacific but leaves out China. The survey was conducted online for a month during February and March this year.
Around the region, on average, travellers are taking five one-way flights per year, 3.2 personal flights and 1.6 business trips.
Business travel is particularly high in Thailand at 4.5 flights each leading Japan (3.9) and India (3.6).
But most of Asia’s frequent fliers do it on the cheap, particularly for personal flights, flying down the back of the plane in Economy. US and Thai travellers are more likely to book premium economy or business class.
A very ‘Asian’ thing, nearly a third of passengers say they take off their shoes, but not their socks, with just 7% going barefoot during flights.
