Thailand Event Round-Up – April
with The Sponsorship Experts – Paul Poole (South East Asia) Co. Ltd.
The month of April is typically dominated by a slew of events related to Songkran, the Thai New Year, and this year is no different.
One of our favourites is the Singha Songkran Night Run, which returns to Chiang Mai on 13 April. The run, which takes place around Chiang Mai Zoo, is known for its relaxed atmosphere with participants being doused in water along the route. Participants can register for three distances, a Half Marathon (21km), a Mini Marathon (10km) and a Fun Run (5km).
In the motor sports category, the Bangkok International Motor Show (28 March – 8 April, Bangkok) promises a high-octane event, showcasing the newest technology and innovation alongside the sexiest cars on the planet.
If big, noisy bikes with big, noisy bikers are more your thing, head to Phuket for the annual Phuket Bike Week (11-14 April on Patong Beach at Loma Park and 20-21 April at Phuket Boat Lagoon). With over 10,000 motorcycle enthusiasts and 50,000 visitors expected to attend, the event is one of the largest of its kind in Asia. A lot of fun and a great crowd.
Two of pop music’s biggest stars descend on Bangkok in April, with Katy Perry’s WITNESS: The Tour 2018 playing at Impact Arena on 10 April and Bruno Mars giving two shows at Impact Arena on 30 April and 1 May. Tickets are still available for all three performances but they are selling fast!
With the yachting high season drawing to a close, the Top of the Gulf Regatta (27 April – 1 May, Ocean Marina Yacht Club) is one of the last major events on the yachting calendar before the new season starts. The Top of the Gulf Regatta, now in its 14th year, is one of Asia’s most extensive, inviting boats of all sizes and sailors of all abilities to enjoy racing in the Gulf of Thailand. The result is a flurry of activity with sometimes up to 12 classes and truly one of the most exciting yachting events in the region.
One of the absolute highlights in the industry of sports, the annual SportAccord Convention, will take place in Bangkok from 15-20 April. The world’s premier event around the service of sports, SportAccord is focused on driving positive change, engaging and connecting rights holders, organising committees, cities, press and media, businesses and other organisations involved in the development of sport.
Organised by SportAccord, a not-for-profit organisation, the five-day event will comprise of a number of cultural activities including cooking classes and Muay Thai shows, an exhibition, and a conference under the theme “Uniting A Global Audience: Marketing and Sponsorship for the Future”. If you’re in the sports industry, this is your event!
