MCA president Wee Ka Siong steps down after 30 years in Johor Baru
The Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) president, Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong, has stepped down from his position as Johor Baru division leader after serving the division for 30 years. He has held the role for 15 years, following another 15 years as the division’s secretary. Wee Ka Siong expressed his belief in the importance of leadership transition at the divisional level to ensure the party’s future well-being.
“Today, I am officially resigning from my position at the divisional level. It is with sadness because I have been in this division since I was single and this is the last time I’m speaking (as division leader).”
Wee Ka Siong’s political journey began with the Johor Baru MCA division public complaints bureau, where he was involved in assisting victims of scam syndicates and loan sharks. He later became the division leader. The Johor Baru MCA Division has produced numerous notable leaders, not only at the party level but also in the government, such as the late Tan Sri Lee San Choon, former MCA president, and the late Datuk Freddie Long, former Johor MCA chairman.
“In that regard, I am confident that the Johor Baru MCA Division will continue to achieve more success in the future.”
During the party election held at Dewan Jubli Intan, former Youth chief Bong Seng Heng won the position of Johor Baru MCA division leader with 152 votes, defeating contender Ang Boon Heng, who received 45 votes.
