A Chinese policewoman who aided an elderly man who had fallen in the street was met with accusations and a hefty compensation demand of 13,000 yuan (65,500 baht), leading her to reveal her true identity as a police officer, silencing her accusers.

The incident occurred recently in Tianjin, China when a policewoman, on her way to work, came across a fallen elderly man in the street. Without hesitation, she called the emergency services and accompanied the man to the hospital to ensure proper medical attention was received. She also paid the medical costs upfront.

However, what shocked her was the elderly man’s family accused her of causing his fall and demanded further compensation of 10,000 yuan, on top of the 3,000 yuan she had already paid for his medical treatment.

Despite the policewoman’s insistence that the man had tripped and she merely assisted him out of kindness, the family remained adamant in their accusations. Faced with their hostility, she decided to report the matter to the police. To her disappointment, the man sided with his family, questioning her motives.

“If you didn’t cause the accident, why would you kindly take him to the hospital and pay his medical fees?”

With the accusations mounting, the woman revealed her identity as a policewoman. She stated that her assistance to the elderly man was not just due to her moral duty but also her professional instinct. Undeterred by the family’s claims, she contacted the CCTV department to uncover the truth which clearly showed the man’s fall occurred several meters away from where she had been.

Confronted with this evidence, the man’s family fell silent and returned the 3,000 yuan medical fees to the policewoman. Two days later, they received a court summons as the policewoman had sued them for intimidation and demanded emotional damages of 40,000 yuan. The man and his family were shocked and couldn’t believe the turn of events, reported Sanook.

Nevertheless, the court ruled in favour of the policewoman and ordered the family to pay 40,000 yuan for emotional damages. What’s more surprising is that the policewoman donated all the money to a charity organisation immediately after receiving it.

The news of her actions was met with widespread approval online, with many praising her behaviour and the court’s decision.
