Sunday drenching for Phuket
Consistent and heavy rains are drenching Phuket this morning as emergency services are stretched to assist drivers and motorcyclists who were stuck in flooded roads.
Along Viset Road, Rawai, quite a few patches of the road were impassable with rain failing to run off into the roadside drains. Some short spurts around 7am turned into heavier rain as the morning progressed. Although the official forecast is for ‘scattered thunderstorms’ most of the island has already had steady falls since early in the morning.
The rain bands are approaching the island from the WSW.
The Thai Meteorological Department has issued a warning for tropical storm “PAKHAR” over the upper South China Sea locates at 20.1 degree North and longitude 115.1 degree East. With sustained winds of 80 km/hr, the storm is moving northwest about 25 km/hr through Hainan to upper Vietnam during 27-28 August.
The Department say it will affect the north part of the country with torrential downpours the North and the Northeast when it comes near upper Vietnam in the next 24 hours.
