British tourist freaks out after being told she’d overstayed her visa by 160 days

An ‘aggrieved’ tourist by the name of Auj-e Taqaddas, holding a British passport, assaulted a patient and calm immigration officer in Bali, Indonesia after being told she’d overstayed her Indonesian visa.

A British tourist has been caught on camera screaming and slapping an immigration officer at Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport today (Saturday) after being told that she had to pay a hefty fine.

“The person in this case overstayed, exceeding her immigration permit in Indonesia,” Immigration spokesperson Agung Sampurno told Detik.

After this was discovered by immigration officers, Auj-e Taqaddas was taken to an office.

“From the beginning, when we detected that she had overstayed at the counter, she was already emotional with (the officer).”

She was then told that foreigners are required to pay US$25 per day if they overstay. Having been in the country illegally for 160 days, this meant that the tourist needed to pay GBP3,046 (around 137,000 baht).

Enraged by the hefty fine, the 42-year-old began cussing at the officer. When he tried to take her passport back, the woman slapped him in the face.

“She slapped the officer, who is a respected guard. So we reported it to the police,” Metro reported.

“She pretended not to know that she had overstayed. But people who visit a country to travel know they have a period of stay, and she had overstayed since February,” said Aris

The woman remains in Bali, unable to leave until the fine is paid and pending charges following her outburst at the airport immigration office.
