Video Report: Phuket Police wait for Region 8 to begin search for bodies

PHUKET: Phuket police are waiting for Region 8 Forensic officers to arrive before starting to sift through the demolished SuperCheap structure for signs of those who may have died in the enormous blaze that started last night and continued well into today.

“When the team arrives, officials can start their investigation and the search for bodies,” Phuket Provincial Police Commander Ong-art Phiwruangnont said.

“We are just putting out the fire now. There is nothing we can do until the Region 8 team arrives,” Maj Gen Ong-art said.

At least one person reported missing, 25-year-old Ta Choodam, has been located alive and well after the incident. Ms Ta was working at the megastore when the fire broke out, and at about 10am this morning, her grandmother reported her missing. However, Ms Ta was found at home safe, Maj Gen Ong-art said.

At last report, one person remained on the police missing person list – Angkana Namrob, 29. She was reported missing by a friend who said that Ms Angkana was shopping at the complex yesterday afternoon.

To report a missing person or damage to personal property caused by the blaze, contact the emergency contact center at 076-218444 or 089-649 5915.
