Krill-iant phenomenon: Millions wash ashore a Phuket beach
Mai Khao Beach in Phuket experienced a peculiar occurrence as millions of krill washed ashore over the weekend. The event sparked worry among local villagers, particularly due to the unusual purple colour of the krill, as opposed to their typical pinkish-red hue.
Winai Sae-ew, the Village Headman of Moo 4, Mai Khao, inspected the beach yesterday afternoon. During his investigation, he discovered the krill spread across 4 to 5 kilometres of the beach.
In response to the phenomenon, some residents started gathering the krill and cleaning them with seawater. However, others viewed the event with anxiety, questioning whether it could be an indicator of an approaching natural disaster, reported Phuket News.
“The colour of the krill that washed ashore is concerning. Krill shrimp usually appear pinkish-red, but the millions of krill that arrived on Mai Khao Beach are purple in colour.”
The unusual sight was a first-time experience for Winai.
“It is strange, and I have never seen this before. I want the relevant officials to investigate what caused this.”
This strange, unexplained phenomenon has left the local community on edge, with many awaiting further insights from officials to understand the cause behind this unusual event. The villagers hope that the investigation will bring clarity to the situation and rule out any potential natural disasters that this occurrence could indicate. The situation remains under review.
Beaches in Phuket are no stranger to controversy. In February, an allegedly outraged Thai voyeur shared a video capturing a foreign couple having sex on Patong Beach in Phuket on social media platforms. Locals condemned their act and demanded authorities to take action on the matter.
The video of the foreign couple was shared on social media by a Thai motorist-cum-voyeur who rode a motorcycle past the scene. The incident reportedly occurred on Patong Beach at midnight on February 24. The nationalities of the foreign couple were not revealed.
